Let’s Transform Our Talking

Romans 12:2 (NLT)Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Proverbs 18:21 New Living Translation (NLT)
21 The tongue can bring death or life; (That’s Powerful!) Another translation says, Death and Life are in the Power of The Tongue…
those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

So, then since our tongue has that much power, then I think it’s safe to say that we ought to be careful about how we talk to others AND also how we talk to ourselves.

What kind of self talk do you find yourself doing????

A few months ago we talked about Speaking Life
used for our scripture foundation

2 Corinthians 10:3–5. For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

And because we are talking about Transforming the way we Talk
We should take God word and Talk to ourselves with it.

So in light of our Proverbs scripture this morning
Proverbs 18:21 New Living Translation (NLT)
21 The tongue can bring death or life;
those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Sermon Note #1
Our Words Have Power & We Will Reap The Consequences

So When we talk about reaping the consequences of something I think we ought to really take that thing very seriously…
If we are going to reap the consequences of what we say, then we ought to be very careful of the things we say, whether we are saying them to ourselves or to someone else.

During one of Jesus’ Healing moments (Matthew 12:22-34) CEV

He had healed a man who could not see or talk because he was possessed by a demon.
After he healed the man the people were so amazed they said, Could this be the Son of David ( a term they used to describe the Messiah, the Savior they had been waiting for)

The Pharisees, spoke up and said,“He forces out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons!”

Any kingdom where people fight each other will end up ruined. And a town or family that fights will soon destroy itself. 26 So if Satan fights against himself, how can his kingdom last?

30 If you are not on my side, you are against me. If you don’t gather in the harvest with me, you scatter it. 31-32 I tell you that any sinful thing you do or say can be forgiven. Even if you speak against the Son of Man, you can be forgiven. But if you speak against the Holy Spirit, you can never be forgiven, either in this life or in the life to come.

33 A good tree produces only good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. You can tell what a tree is like by the fruit it produces. 34 You are a bunch of evil snakes, so how can you say anything good? Your words show what is in your hearts.

In verse 36 Jesus says,
I promise you that on the day of judgment, everyone will have to account for every careless word they have spoken.

Sermon Note #2
We will give account of every careless word we speak

Now hopefully that scripture will cause all of us in here to pause and think before we speak the next time somebody make us angry…

SERMON NOTE #3
LET’S START USING OUR WORDS TO HEAL OURSELVES AND EACH OTHER

Proverbs 12:18 (NIV) says it like this
18
The words of the reckless pierce like swords,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Proverbs 10:11 (NLT)
The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain;
the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.

Proverbs 15:23 (CEV)
23
Giving the right answer
at the right time
    makes everyone happy.

The bible says in Ephesians 4:15 (NLT)
for us to:
15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

We all want to be Loved, its a lot easier to swallow truth when its seasoned with Grace & Mercy…

What’s that old saying, People don’t care about how much you know until they know how much you care!

James says this about the tongue in Chapter 3

8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? (NIV)

13 If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. (NLT)

So then that takeaway for today is to Let’s Be Intentional about Speaking Life Giving Words
Fresh Water Words
Words that are true
and let those same words inhabit our minds…

“Take A Leap Of Faith”

John 19:38-42 (NLT)

The Burial of Jesus

38 Afterward Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus (because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate for permission to take down Jesus’ body. When Pilate gave permission, Joseph came and took the body away. 39 With him came Nicodemus, the man who had come to Jesus at night. He brought about seventy-five pounds of perfumed ointment made from myrrh and aloes. 40 Following Jewish burial custom, they wrapped Jesus’ body with the spices in long sheets of linen cloth. 41 The place of crucifixion was near a garden, where there was a new tomb, never used before. 42 And so, because it was the day of preparation for the Jewish Passover and since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

What could have possibly given Joseph a change of heart?

Could it have been how he witness the conniving and the deception?

Could it have been he decided he could no longer go along to get along?

Could the ugliness of the how the Jewish Leaders of the day schemed to have Jesus crucified?

Maybe it was how Jesus handle all of the mistreatment, and scourging?

Maybe it was how he saw Jesus keep on going to the cross without a fight?

Joseph was used by God to fulfill the prophecy spoken of by the Prophet Isaiah

Isaiah 53:9 (NIV)

He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.

Can you imagine Joseph of Arimethea  on the 3rd Day!

After Jesus Got up with all power conquering Death – Hell  – and the Grave!

I challenge you to Take A Leap Of Faith and go and tell somebody that Jesus Loves them and He Cares for them!

Those of us who call ourselves Christians are reminded in:

2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (NIV)

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
